How much is beauty a part of success?

In business or in every day life.

Some of us are models, some of us are not eligible to take part in beauty contests, and some are just plain scary. It is said that a first good impression is a key to success.

So how much would the beauty factor weigh to have a successfull life? How much is beauty a part of success?
hundreds of studies have been done on this and it's really not open for personal opinions anymore. unfortunately, against the politically correct mafia, the beauty factor absolutely matters. the effects of attractiveness begin to show themselves at birth (parents favor cuter children - shown in research) and proceed into kindergarden (teachers favor attractive children and children like attractive teachers more) and of course high school (where attractiveness accounts for most of the variation in ';popularity';). In the workplace, the same biases and stereotypes about attractive people hold, and some research indicates that people simply feel better around attractive people. Looking at an attractive face stimulates the brain in different ways (both male and female - heterosexual) than looking at an unattractive face.

it can be quite depressing, but just remember the absolute percentage of highly attractive people is only around 10%... we just think it's much higher because of the images we are bombarded with in the media of the most attractive people in the world. Some of us also have a cognitive bias to make ';upward comparisons'; and remember attractive people more than unattractive people...so we feel uglier than we actually are.How much is beauty a part of success?
Beauty always helps but you there are a lot of very ugly and very successful business people out there.
The main reason beauty plays such a big role in success is the fact that people that are attractive tend to have a lot more self confidence. Thus, they are more outgoing, friendly and are happier.
It opens doors but not a lot beyond that. after the door is open the remainder is based on skill, personality and ability. Unless your screwing the boss of course, But then the success only lasts as long as the boss does.
I would say at least 85%. I personally have seen it. A woman can have a masters degree and be perfectly qualified for a position, if a younger / more attractive girl applies with only a HS diploma, depending on the company and the new boss, the more attractive girl will get the job. I have seen people move forward in companies and leap over the ';competition'; because of their looks, not skill. Race, weight, height, hair, teeth, style of dress and even mode of transportation all matter in 2007.

It's just a hardcore fact, looks matter in American society. Perception is reality.

Just my $0.02...
too much than should be
In certain businesses, it is a Minor Issue beside more essential issues....

A Computer Programmer is a soild example...

In other Businesses, it is an absolute Priority

Prostitution is a solid example....

Isn't that LOGICAL ?
Because first impressions last, beauty is a major factor in a successful life
it shouldn't

but pretty people are found to be more successful because people would tolerate them more than ugly people hence more experiences, better attitude, and more opportunities.
Its quite a lot important though not many will agree with me on that. But it really is.
First impressions are important; however for those of us that don't look like the stars it is not the only thing that matters. A good first impression is not just the physical one you must have the wining personality (at least during the interview) and that can make the interviewer rethink any impressions they may have had about a persons appearances. Of course you have even a better chance at a job if you have the qualifications that they are looking for.
Depends on the career. Models, it's a big part. Brainy jobs like computer programmers and scientists, not a big part. Finanacial jobs like investment bankers and stockbrokers where image is a big deal, it's pretty important.
actually too much i don't mean to say am pretty or something but where ever i go i can get easily cool jobs what ever i want to
Donald Trump.. Need I say more?
Depends on what job you have and in what industry you work in. But generally, successful life depends not only on beauty, but also on brains. If you use your brain correctly and you make the wright choices, then you can use your beauty. Don't forget the inner beauty, which this makes you worth as a human and makes you different from the others.
Beauty gets your foot in the door more. It makes things easier. A study showed people are just nicer to good looking people. But it has a backlash against it: men stalk you, your boss try to have sex with you. So beauty may get you in the door but only your brains and willpower will keep you there.
More than you might think, studies show that good looking people often get the picked first, it's just natural part of life. It has to do with Hyman's inadvertent way of selecting the strongest genes to get th job done.
Good looking people tend to be better at social interaction. So it is easier to network and make allies. Confidence is a big factor in everything, physical apperance plays a big role in that as well.
In business, beauty matters. It may not be fair but that's the truth. People always like to be surrounded by beautiful people.
A lot..... I've seen it first hand. Look around you. I bet you can see that the pretty girl will get asked if she'd like a seat before the ugly girl does. It has been studied that people ';take to'; beautiful things including people. It makes us feel more comfortable. I love people watching and I've noticed this almost daily.
Not to sure, we have more average looking people in the world than glamorous or pure ugly. You know what, forget it. I can't explain my thoughts.
